Dallas Police Department Property Unit

The Property Unit mission is to provide accountability and service to citizens, law enforcement officials, and prosecutors, who rely on the evidence and property stored, maintained, and tracked by the unit.    

Intake, is a 24/7 operation that allows the department personnel to tag or retrieve evidence; Property Disposition and Property Disposal, which work closely with the District Attorney's office and courts to determine what evidence and property can be processed for disposal, then retrieves and disposes of items approved for disposal in accordance with state law and city ordinance.  ​

Found, Abandoned, or Unclaimed Property

The Dallas Police Department now provides online public notice of Found, Abandoned and Unclaimed Property in accordance with Article 18.17 of the Texas Code of Criminal Procedure. General information regarding Found, Abandoned and Unclaimed property will be posted below and will remain available for a minimum of 90 days. Unclaimed property will be disposed of after the 90-day notice period and may be sold or otherwise disposed of in accordance with Article 18.17 of the Texas Code of Criminal Procedure.

Proof of Ownership Required

To claim found property, a claimant must provide​ proof of ownership. The following documents or information may be submitted as verification:

• ​Receipts, invoices, or proof of purchase
  
• Serial number, model number, or identifying markings
• Photographs clearly showing the item in your possession
• Detailed description of unique features or contents
• Warranty, registration, or insurance documents that list the item
• Police report number related to the loss or theft (if applicable)
