Texas Penal Code - PENAL § 37.08. False Report to Peace Officer, Federal Special Investigator, or Law Enforcement Employee

(a) A person commits an offense if, with intent to deceive, he knowingly makes a false statement that is material to a criminal investigation and makes the statement to:
(1) a peace officer or federal special investigator conducting the investigation;  or
(2) any employee of a law enforcement agency that is authorized by the agency to conduct the investigation and that the actor knows is conducting the investigation.
(b) An offense under this section is a Class B misdemeanor.

  • The offense occurred within the City limits of Dallas.
  • The offense did not meet the requirements of the Penal Code Statute.
  • Do you believe you are the victim of a crime because of your race, religion, sexual orientation, handicap, ethnicity or national origin?
  • Is the suspect a family member? Family member is define as Boyfriend, Girlfriend, Intimate Partner, Roommate, Spouse, Common in Law Spouse, Parent, Sibling, Child, Grandparent, Grandchild, In-Laws, Step-parent, Step-child, Step-sibling or Other Family Member.
  • Are you reporting an emergency or a crime in progress?
  • Was the vehicle parked in an attached or detached garage?
  • Was the vehicle stolen?
  • Did the incident involve the theft of firearms, law enforcement equipment, prescription drug(s) or prescription(s) for drugs?
  • Did the incident involve the theft of a utility trailer, vehicle or was there damage to the vehicle's ignition or steering wheel column?
  • Is the value of the Property less than $2500 except for the offense of Burglary of Motor Vehicle?
  • Was this a theft from person which involved any form of violence or threat?
  • Did the theft occur from within your house, apartment or business without your permission?
