General Information

The Dallas Police Department Crime Scene Response Section is a 24/7 operation responsible for the forensic processing of criminal incident scenes to a permanent resident population of about 1.3 million people.  Each crime scene analyst is trained as a "Generalist" (multiple forensic disciplines) and is capable of processing an assigned crime scene as an individual. This "Generalist" approach requires that our in-house crime scene training reflect the current legal and scientific requirements necessary to function within the rigorous demands of a large city, with its unique mix of cultural diversity, in both urban and rural geographic environments.  Andra Lewis-Krick, the Section Training Officer, is tasked with providing all personnel the best forensic crime scene training possible.

Course content is regularly reviewed and updated to reflect the continuing advancements in the various forensic sciences.  All courses are "stand alone" forensic crime scene instruction, and not "workshop/overview" type presentations.  Comprehension of the subject material is assessed by either practical application, and/or a written test.  This approach assures that each crime scene analyst will not only be thoroughly prepared to process a crime scene, but handle the subsequent rigors of qualifying as an expert witness, providing scientific testimony in the courtroom under the mandated "gatekeeper criteria" requirements of recent U.S. Supreme Court decisions "Daubert" and "Kumho Tire".

Andra Lewis-Krick has a dual Bachelor of Science degree in Biochemistry and Chemistry from California State University Long Beach as well as a M.S. in Forensic Science from the University of New Haven.  She has worked both in the laboratory and out in the field and has received professional training in a wide range of forensic disciplines.
