Implemented a requirement for all personnel who are issued a body worn camera to wear their assigned body worn camera at all approved off-duty employments. August 2022
Revised the General Orders to ensure the Chief of Police reviews and assigns discipline on all alleged employee conduct investigations involving the violation of any local, state, or federal law, or conduct that has been the subject of any criminal investigation (including Class C citations). August 2022
Created the Special Response Group, which is tasked with responding to civil unrest/disorder, public demonstrations, special events, natural/weather-related disasters, man made disasters, or mutual aid based on the needs of the Department. February 2022
Initiated a multi-year expansion of the Rapid Integrated Group Healthcare Team (RIGHT Care). November 2021
Created a History of Policing in America course in partnership with the University of North Texas at Dallas. August 2021
Became the first major-city police department in Texas to fully embrace an innovative peer-intervention program called Active Bystandership for Law Enforcement (ABLE). June 2021
Implemented an Early Warning System to assist the Department and its supervisors in identifying potential officer misconduct. November 2020

Updated the Department's crowd control and less lethal policies in response to the May 2020 George Floyd incident. July 2020
Revised the General Orders to require the Chief of Police's authorization prior to the deployment of CS gas. July 2020
Created and implemented a body and dashcam policy to release critical incident videos within 30 days. June 2020

Revised the General Orders to include a prohibition of chokeholds to align with a preexisting Roll Call Training Bulletin established in 2004. June 2020

 Response to Resistance Annual Reports

The Internal Affairs Division collects and reports statistical information reported by officers involving contacts where an officer was required to use a control technique above compliant handcuffing.

Racial Profiling Reports

The Constitutional Policing Unit collects and reports statistical information reported by officers related to motor vehicle contacts.  

Internal Affairs Division Yearly Summaries

The Internal Affairs Division (IAD) prepares an annual report summarizing the top external complaint allegations investigated, the disposition of each, racial profiling complaints, and disciplinary actions resulting from IAD investigations.
